I can already hear the sound of applause amongst all of my readers. This is what everybody wants to know. This is probably the most popular question I get asked. I do workshops on this. I give private consultations on this. And now…I write articles on it too. This is probably the one thing that would help you out a whole lot in your life, and probably the one thing you struggle the most with. I know I did!
So, here’s what I do:
1. Find a quiet place.
This could be in your room, it could be outside in your beautiful garden, it could be during a nice hot bath. It could take 5 minutes, or it could take 60 minutes. It’s up to you, and what you want to do. If you are absolutely new to connecting with your guides, let’s start of with 5 minutes. It’s ok. I’ll walk you through this one. The most important thing is to set aside some peaceful, uninterrupted time, just for yourself and your connection. Plan it in advance. When are you going to do it today? Write it down. Make a date! You can set the scene too, if that helps you get in the zone. Light a few candles. Dim the lights. Light some incense. Sounds pretty intimate. That’s ok. And if all goes well, you might get to second base (spiritually speaking, of course!). You may choose to play some meditation music (quietly) in the background if you choose to. I personally avoid this, as it interrupts my connection at times. But this is a personal preference. I find it difficult to write an essay with music on in the background – I’m just weird like that. Meditation music might be really great for you. Try it out and see how you like it. Ok, now you’ve made the date, you’ve set the scene. Tonight could be your lucky night!!
2. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, quiet your mind.
You may want to sit, or lay down. I like to lay down. It’s just the way I roll. Get really comfortable. Give yourself permission to totally relax. This is just 5 minutes in your day. You can do this. Mentally keep affirming to yourself that you are going to have a psychic experience. I like to use these affirmations: “I am profoundly clairvoyant” “I am profoundly psychic” “I am going to have an amazing psychic experience” Breathe long and deeply. Try to consciously focus on each inhale and exhale, for 10 counts. If your mind wonders, that’s okay, just keep coming right back to the breath. Try to “zone out” a little bit. Keep thinking about your breathing, and your affirmations. You don’t need to spend too much time here. You may want to. You may feel like you’re not getting it right, and you’re not trying hard enough. Ignore those thoughts, because you are perfect, and you already know how to do this.
3. Ask your guides a question.
Now, I want you to ask your guides a question. If this is your first time connecting with your guides, you can say “what is your name?” or “what would you like me to call you?”. You could also ask other questions too. It could be a very specific question like “Should I take up this new job opportunity?”
A personal favorite is “what changes do you want to see me make in my life right now?”. I ask this question at least once a week.
If this is your absolute first time connecting with your guides, this one might be a bit tricky to get a full answer for. But more on that later. Since this is your absolute first time, it’s a good idea to focus on just one question. Write this question down at the start of your day, before your “Session”. Review it after you have set the scene. And once you are at this step, simply ask that question.
And then what? And then you wait. You wait until the answer fills you up. This is my favorite step. It’s a common misconception that this is the hardest step. People complain that they just don’t hear the answer, but actually, this is the easiest step. The harder parts are the first 3 steps – finding time to do it, quieting your mind, and asking your questions clearly. If you can get the first three steps down to a T, the rest is easy.
So, as I said: you simply wait for the answer fills you up. It happens in different ways for different people.
Sometimes you will just hear a voice speaking the answer in your head. It will probably sound like your own thinking voice at first, and it will say something like “Malavika, take the job. It is safe for you to do so.”Sometimes it feels like this internal knowingness, where you suddenly just KNOW what you need to do. Sometimes you will catch a glimpse of a vision in your mind – like a short movie. If I said to you “picture your living room” and you see it right now, don’t you? But you don’t actually “see” it with your physical eyes. But you can still see it. That’s what it feels like to see a “vision”, but I would imagine it would be something other than your living room. So you may catch a glimpse of you taking the job. Or you might just get a feeling. You may think of yourself taking the job and suddenly be covered in goosebumps, which by the way, is a universal “YES. Do it!”.
Now this step, to just “listen” is not constrained to the 5 minutes you spend meditating. Be extra observant in your day to day life because the answer to your question will come in weird and wonderful ways and its your job to get real good and seeing them. Sometimes you won’t feel a whole lot of anything, but then in the coming days, you will notice some kind of sign in the physical world about your question. Suppose you asked your guides what their name is, and you “heard” in your head, maybe 3 names. Sylvia, Jack, Preston. Well, which is it?
Simply look around you in the next coming days for extra validation of what your guides name really is. You may meet someone called Preston, you may get a wrong number from someone asking for “Jack”, you may read a book by an author called “Sylvia”.
