Live with intensity

I haven’t been able to update my blog as much as I would like these days as my exams are coming up in 8 DAYS. This semester has gone by so fast and I think it has been my favourite semester so far in Medicine. I have really enjoyed every rotation we covered and started to feel more comfortable in the hospital. It is really surreal to imagine that in 18 months we will be junior doctors!!!!  I am excited and grateful that I get to spend the rest of my life doing this.

I wanted to write this post for the last couple of days because I have been really inspired by this message.

There are so many opportunities for joy in this moment. There are so many opportunities for peace in this moment. But we are always too concerned with the next moment or the moment that has just past, that a joyful and peaceful life passes us by.

When was the last time you have been totally immersed in the moment? When was the last time you have given the moment fully what it needs?

Have you noticed that when you have given yourself fully to something, whether that be a work out, or a conversation with a friend, or a meditation, or studying, or cleaning, when you are finished with that thing you have such a deep satisfying feeling of peace. You sleep easier.

These are the moments when you feel totally in sync with what life has to offer you. There is a way to make that feeling last. We just need to make the decision to do that more often.

There is the well known adage “Live as though you would die tomorrow.” This quote encourages us to live intensely. Because we tend to live mildly. And it usually takes something extreme to happen for us to live intensely. But we can live this way always. And imagine how much our life would change if we did just that? Imagine how different life would look?

We can give ourselves completely to what life offers you today. Whether that be something fun or not. For example, you might not find working out “fun”, but when you give myself fully to it, you receive the gift of that opportunity to work out. So while some things might not be “fun” to do, you still feel good after that because you have the feeling that “I lived fully today. I gave myself fully to what life offered me today.”

I think this is one of the biggest contributors to our inner peace and satisfaction.

Be focused, be present, be here. And I do hope that you give yourself fully to what your life is showing you every day, because life just isn’t that long.

Live happily!

Hi, Malavika. I was scrolling through the Reader and strumbled upon your post. I’m glad that I did. I wrote about a similar “be present” topic today. All in all, I think our conversations focus around the importance of being more present. I think you make a great point when you state that it “usually takes something extreme to happen for us to live intensely.” We should always be living life to the fullest, in the now (not in the yesterdays and tomorrows) … no matter what.
